Hi Mike,

My name is Nick and I am a sixth grader at St. Mark Catholic School in Boynton Beach, FL. I've been reading your jounal and wondering how deep do you dive? What is the average temperature outside? How cold is it in the water?

Stay warm!!!!!! Nick

Hey Nick, More great questions! The air temperature varies quite a bit here at
McMurdo in August. Since we've been here, the lowest air temperature
I've recorded is -33˚F and the coldest wind chill was -49˚F. The
warmest the air has been was 12˚F. It's very different from where you
are in Florida!
As for diving, the water temperature changes very little. No matter
what month it's usually about 28˚F. That's probably very different from
Florida right now too, where I bet the water is in the 80˚F range. As
for how deep we go, it varies depending on where we are diving and what
we are trying to accomplish. We never go deeper than 130 feet.
Keep those great questions coming! It shows you're really thinking
about our expedition. We love that!
Mike
