How thick is the ice on antarctic?

Brandon Gillette

On one side of McMurdo is sea ice which can be up to 10m or so thick, usually less. This is where our plane landed. Keep in mind, only six inches of ice can hold a full sized car. How thick, in inches, was our ice if it was 5m thick? And this held 500,000 pounds! In other places, such as on ice sheets, the ice can be much thicker. Where we are headed into the field at the WAIS Divide, the ice is over 3,000m thick!
