How many people all total are there at McMurdo Station?

And how many different reasons are they there?

Hello Grandma and Grandpa! Right now McMurdo is actually running quite close to capacity, around 1,200 people.  There is no telling what brings people to the ice except that there are quite literally 100s, if not 1000s of reasons; some professional, personal, a sense of adventure, all of the above!  It has been quite fascinating talking with all different kinds of people that are down here from the firefighters, maintenance people, janitors, other researchers and scientists, etc!  There are people from all over the world down here, and they all have amazing stories to tell, as for most of them, this isn't their first trip to the ice.  Not to mention some of their life stories from off the ice.
