Hello Mr. G this is a student from Ruskin High school in Kansas City MO and I want to know since your on the ice about how thin do you think the ice sheets are???? Laughing

Brandon Gillette

The ice thickness where we are here at WAIS Divide is over 3,000 meters thick.  Across the continent it can range from a couple hundred meters thick to nearly 4,000 or higher in some places.  Sea ice can be as few as 4-5 meters thick and still have a C-17 plane land on it!  The C-17 we flew to McMurdo in weighed a half a million pounds and was able to land on the sea ice!~Gillette
