can lava get put out by ice

Very interesting question. If you think about it, lava isn't really on fire, so technically it can't be put out. However, because of the extreme temperature differences, if lava were to come into contact with ice, it would certainly solidify rather quickly. Without any kind of testing it is hard to give you quantitative conclusions, but in general, ice would cause the lava to slow and stop fairly fast. Cheers,
