How cold does it get where you are going?

Brandon Gillette

Questions about the weather are always great! About a week of our time will be spent at McMurdo Station. The average temperatures in November are -10 C (15 F), and in December are -3 C (26 F). After a week or so in McMurdo we are headed to the WAIS Divide Field Camp. At this time I am unaware of the weather conditions. I'm not going to lie, that makes me a little nervous. I will be sure to keep you posted! Thank you! ~Brandon

Hi Brandon,Hope you don't mind me butting in here. But thought I would post this website, here. The meteorologist with whom I will be working, maintain 50+ Automated weather stations around the continent. They transmit live data every 3 minutes.

Well, it wont be so bad at Mactown, but at the camp it could get cold. I bet you will have lots of fun anyways! Take Lots of pictures! We want to see what you are doing! Best of luck on your trip!

Kirk,I don't mind the information at all.  In fact, some of the students here might find it interesting to keep up to date on weather down there.  I will certainly check it out and be sure to make note to the students!
Thank you!~Brandon

If you had to choose a limb/body part to become totally crystalline and fall off, what would it be and why? Thanks a bunch, G.
I anxiously await your timely and thoughtful response.

Hey G-Unit!I'm going to play it safe and go with toes.  I figure that is the one part that I don't really need much.  All they are really good for is balance, and when you're walking around on ice, how much of that do you have anyway?  Not to mention the fact that I usually wear shoes and socks.  I figure the only thing I would have to do without is flip flops.
I hope I haven't let you down in my response!  Put me on your email list.  I can't wait to get good stuff from the CT Science Dept!
