Hi Cameo,

I am really enjoying reading your journals! I had to laugh when you talked about the tents. My husband and I have a Kiva and an Arctic Oven for winter camping in Alaska, and I totally agree that the Kiva is too small and awkward of a design! hehe!

I also have a question. Most of the pictures of Helo drivers I see, they do not wear the "big red" -- are they excluded from those rules or is it just coincidence?

Thanks! Kristin

Hi Kristin -
I think I have put up every type of tent that they have in Antarctica (Kiva, Arctic Oven, Endurance, Mountain, and Scott) and my favorite is definitely the Arctic Oven.
I asked Stacy about the helo personnel and she said that they can wear a different coat and different boots as long as they get them inspected and approved.  In fact, anyone can get the same approval.  Otherwise, you have to wear "Big Red", bunny boots, and wind pants to board a helicopter.
Thanks for the question.
Cameo :)
