Hi -
You are very observant.  There is a lot of work to do.  I start at about 6:45am most days and I usually don't go back to my dorm room before 10:30pm.  I really enjoy what I am doing so I don't mind too much.
I have been here for 14 days and we had 1 day off.  On that day we went to see the penguin colony at Cape Royds and we also saw Shackleton's Nimrod hut.  It was a full, fun day.
If you come to Antarctica be prepared to work, but also be prepared to have the experience of a lifetime.
