What is a nimrod? We want to know why the hut is named aftera dork...!

A nimrod is actually a hunter.  It also is the name of a black powder cartridge from the 1890's.
Shackleton led the 1907-1909 British Antarctic Expedition which was also known as the Nimrod Exhibition.  I guess they considered themselves great hunters exploring an unknown world.  Nimrod was also the name of the ship that the expedition used to get to Antarctica.  It was over 40 years but it made it back to England.
So the next time you call someone a "nimrod" you are actually calling them a "hunter".  That's not such a bad thing.
