Heyy !

I hope everyting is well on the ice...it is very exciting to read about all of your projects and experiences online. Its great that so many people are interested in this topic :)

My question for you is did you ever see yourself doing this when you where little? You probably had an idea about what you wanted to do in your life and maybe that it had to do with science..but did you ever imagaine going to Antartica and researching sea ice?! How did you ever get involved with such a fascinating and extensive research projct? I think it is very cool that you are doing this and i am looking forward to following your journal.

Stay warm ! Hope to talk to you soon

Hi Nikki -
I have to be honest and say that when I was young I don't remember thinking that I wanted to go to Antarctica.  I have always been very adventurous and like to try new and different things.  I also love to travel (something my parents encouraged).
About five years ago I decided that I really wanted to go to Antarctica, but not as a tourist.  I wanted to be part of the work that is being done here because I feel that it is so important to the world.  I began looking for grant programs that would allow me to go to Antarctica as a teacher.  I couldn't find anything and then I met another teacher who told me about PolarTREC.  I couldn't wait to sign up.  However, it wasn't quite that easy.  I was incredibly fortunate to be selected to be a PolarTREC teacher and even more blessed to be selected by Dr. Stacy Kim to be a part of her research team.  I am constantly having people in Antarctica tell me just lucky I am and boy do I know it.
I am thrilled that you are following along.  I promise to tell you everything in my journals.  Thanks again and I look forward to talking to you soon.
