has anyone ever lost a limb?

Has anyone ever been eatin alive by an carnivorious animals?

Stacy Kim

I am sure people have lost limbs, and in the heroic age of explorationit was very common to lose fingers and toes to frostbite. I don't
personally know of anyone who has lost a limb. Nor do I personally
know of anyone who has been eaten by a carnivorous animal. There are
no terrestrial animals larger than an insect in Antarctica. There are
however, predatory marine animals and there was a diver that was
killed by a leopard seal a few years ago. Fortunately for us, there
are few leopard seals where we dive.

Hey Matt, (yes...I know it's you!)
While Antarctica is a beautiful place, it is also a dangerous place for many reasons--the cold, wind, crevasses. Stacy is correct. Many of the early explorers lost fingers, toes, and even the tips of their noses due to frostbite. And, they were the lucky ones because others did in fact give their life to go where people had never gone before. That is why safety is so VERY important!!!!
I've read many books about Antarctica, and the one "critter" I have no desire to see--up close anyways--is the leopard seal. They are vicious and some early explorers even described the leopard seal as coming up onto the ice and after them. They are very clearly a predator! And dangerous at that!
