What do you do with your free time?

Snowball fight? Sled Rides? Ice Sculpting?

Thanks,

Great question Sheena! I'm hoping to do some hiking, maybe work out in the fitness/weight room, get hooked in with the musicians down there, maybe getting the opportunity to see some different things like a penguin rookery....I also understand that mountain bikes with studded snow tires can be rented! I'd like to do that!! Although not officially endorsed as a leisure actvivty by the NSF and the USAP, I'd also like to do a Polar Bear Plunge! Truthfully, I'm not sure I'll have much free time, but check back when I'm there to see what I find to do!

Hi Sheena,My team members would laugh at the concept of having free time. We
have such a short season that we work very long hours - usually 7:30
am until midnight, 7 days a week. But I am trying to be better at
giving people time off, and maybe this year I will succeed.
There are lots of opportunities for recreation if you do not work for
a slave driver like me. People teach classes in dancing, crafts,
languages, etc. There are trails to hike and we can rent x-country
skis or bikes. There are sports leagues and informal get-togethers
centered around common interests like music. But there is little snow
(it is a desert) so few snowball fights, and sleds are used for work
and playing with them is frowned upon (because if they break, we don't
have parts to fix them and then we can't do our work). Nevertheless,
we have a great time, because the work we are doing is so fun and we
are in such an incredibly beautiful and special place.
Best, Stacy
