What is the coldest temp there. Fran

Stacy Kim

Hi Fran,
It's still very very early spring at McMurdo Station so the
temperatures are cold. The SCINI engineering team that is there
reported minus 90 degrees C last week. That's cold enough that when
you take a cup of boiling water outside and throw it in the air, it
freezes instantly into tiny droplets of ice!

Hey Mom!
When I get home, I'll show you a pic of what Stacy was talking about with the boiling water hitting majorly COLD air! You're doing GREAT on the computer!! Glad it hasn't found its way through the window yet!!

Sandy

Hi Michele, Haven't seen your mother's computer come though window yet. Been trying to help her out the best I can. But I think she would do better with a mouse. I help her out again this weekend. With the mouse I have. I might be putting her though window. Sandy

Hey! Thanks for helping!! I agree about the mouse...and I'll  be there in a week. So hang in there! Thanks again!

What does fly the skinny mean?

Michele Cross

Hey Sandy,

Good question! SCINI stands for Submersible Capable of Under Ice Navigation and Imaging. I believe the picture was in the paper, and there are pictures in the Photo Gallery. As you know, she is a remotely operated vehicle and is operated by a PS2 type game controller. To "fly" her means to drive her or operate her while she's in the water, under the ice. I'm looking forward to giving it a shot!!
