Hi Mindy-

Did the team ever get the auger unfrozen from the ice?

Back in my frozen days (when I lived in northern WI) we used hair driers pointed on the pipes to unfreeze them. The metal accepted the heat and gradually unmelted the ice by transferring the energy. Slowly.

Gotta blow torch? ;o

warmly,

Hi Maggie,The 13' of flights (augers) are still in the ice.  Right now they are trying an electric "hot finger" that is in a hole they drilled right next to it this morning.  The hot finger sends a loop of continuously recirculating hot glycol through it to melt the ice.  Keep your hot fingers crossed that this is working!
Yesterday, Stacy and I went out to GPS a new dive hole position and passed three black flags on the ice.  Black flags are the warning color.  It turned out someone else had their flights stuck in the ice too!
