Ms. Meier's 3rd period thinks the mysterious noise is being made by Scott's ghost, in the cabin!  However, like most mysterious sounds, there is a scientific explaination, such as the wind whistling through the cracks in the boards of the cabin and the different sounds made as the wind hits various objects in the cabin.

Hi Ms. Meier and 3rd period,It's great to hear from you.
Sorry I really didn't see or hear his ghost.
But you are very close about the sound. It was the wind blowing through the pipes and stairs on the porch of a building here in McMurdo, although not the Discovery Hut.
Thanks for writing.

Mr. B,My 6th period class thinks it is the wind whistling throungh the pipes and stairs on the porch of a building.  Aren't they clever??  haha
I was looking through a Glamour magazine and saw an article about a female researcher, Stephanie Konfal, working with a research group from Ohio State University, also at McMurdo.  I was wondering if you have met her or are working in any way with that group?  Finding her in "Glamour" magazine was a neat connection for some of my students.

Hey Pam,I was just talking to Shelley about the Glamour article. She was also interviewed by them. I actually did meet Stephaie Konfal here the other day. I visited quite awhile on a couple of occaisions with with one of the geologists that she works with. They were sitting around here for almost a week waiting for the weather to clear up enough for them to flyout to the field, to a place called Patriot Hills. They are setting up seismic and GPS stations to try to measure movements of the Earth's crust. That will help them figure out what is happening to the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS). There is alot of concern about the WAIS in relation to climate change.
