Your expedition seems like a delight for all the senses. However, I was wondering, as in my previous course we studied the affects of soil salinity on the environment, if there is such an issue there with soil degradation and salinity levels? Also how will the release of carbon affect the overall habitat of its native animals, will they adapt or simply die out? I look forward to hearing more on the subject!

As far as I know, soil salinity is not a major issue, at least not that we're studying. As to the impact of warming on habitat, some animals will probably adapt to changing conditions and thrive while others will not. One thing that's pretty certain is that some type of change will occur. The hard part is figuring out what that change will be.
