CoolHey Mrs.P

So you must be pretty cold.  I ahve a question for you.  Whats types of animals have you seen so far?  Are there some new animals that you have never seen before? O.K see you when you come back.      Kaile  Jacobson      Period 4

Hi Kaile!Yay, my second question from my dear students!

We just left Dutch today at 12:30. On the way out of the Bay, we saw some cormorants, and a gull, birds I have seen before. We won't hit the ice for a few days. It's there that I expect to see some new critters.
We DO expect to see some birds that have flown up to Alaska for food, the Laysan Albatross. They should be around our area feeding on squid and other seafood, then high tail it back to Tern Island in just a few days. You'll get to see the contents of the chicks stomachs in a few weeks. Ms. G has boluses for you to look at and dissect so you can see what's in their diet.
Can you believe they lay their eggs all the way south in Hawaii, in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, then turn around and fly all the way up here to the Bering Sea for food!
Wow!
As for being cold, I am not. I have excellent gear that the National Science Foundation and NOAA gave me to wear. I am as snug as a bug in a rug. My nice warm boots that you all signed surely keep my heart warmest of all.
Stay tuned!
Warmly,
Mrs. P
