Hello Alicia! 
The is a PA (Physician Assistant) on board to take care of anyone who gets ill. He can do many of the things a doctor can do, but is not able to write prescriptions or operate. Everyone calls him, Doc. 
 
Safety is really important in the Coast Guard, and they keep the injuries to a minimum by concentrating on doing things calmly and with purpose.
