Will there be any opportunities to stop at any islands during the cruise as you did last year? If so, where and what will the purpose be? What are the reactions from native people to climate change in their area?

I think these journals are fantastic and the pictures really capture what it is like to be on the ship! Many thanks to all of the scientists on board the Healy for their dedication in searching for the answers to the complexities of climate change.

Hello!
There probably won't be an opportunity for us to get off the ship this year in the Pribilof's like we did last year. Our chief scientist may be making a quick trip to Gambell (via helicopter) to talk to some people today/tomorrow, and we will be stopping at St. Paul in the Pribilof's in about a week, but only to do a science personnel switch. There are outreach events planned for the end of the cruise in Dutch Harbor, however.
Ann Fienup-Riordan is the one to ask about native people's reactions to climate change, and I am hoping to hear from her soon so I can get some answers from her. It is really important to get that perspective, since these are people that live in this region year round, and can provide us important insight into their environment.
Thanks!
