Hi Janet, How was your trip to the Healy? What is the weather like right now in the Northern Bering Sea? What kinds of birds and mammals have the scientists and crew seen since the start of the expedition?

Kristin :)

Hi Kristin!
So far the trip has been good. I'm taking advantage of my downtime in Nome to enjoy the wireless internet at Bering Air! Way cool :) As for the weather in Nome, it's nice and warm - around 55 and partly cloudy skies. The pilots have not been saying anything bad about the weather yet - so I'm hoping Gambell will be good. I just got an email from Jackie Grebmeier and she said that all is a GO for the helicopter pick up from Gambell tomorrow afternoon! So, I just need to get there :)
As for as animals, I've actually already been birding just here by the airport. One of the hot spots for birding in the world happens to be right here in Nome! Lots of people running around with binoculars and cameras right now. More will be in Gambell. It's a hot spot
for Asian species of birds that get blown off course during migrations.
I'm sure I'll have more to report when I get on board.
Hope all is well in DC!!
