Hi John - I have been enjoying following your expedition, although I am jealous that you got to join your team for a second season. It must be very interesting, and valuable, to be able to follow a projct for 2 seasons!

I am curious about something, do you know if there is similar research being conducted on the Antarctic Peninsula? Any ideas about similarities and differences in the carbon cycles in the Arctic tundra and the Antarctic Peninsula?

Looking forward to your webinar next week!Anne Marie

It is a very satisfying experience to get to know more about a project and become a larger part of the operations and the people involved! Also to be here at different times of the year and see many aspects of the sampling is quite the education. There have been a few studies on warming and the affects on C and biomass in the antarctic. I'm not aware of projects looking at the exchange of C with the atmosphere. The antarctic studies do indicate that warming causes the vascular plants to increase their C and biomass, which is similar to our findings here in Alaska. One large difference in the two areas is the much thinner layer of soil in the antarctic.
Thanks,
John
