Hi Mr. Wood, i just had a quick question for you. What kind of birds are there on the tundra up in alaska? (other than the Ptarmigan species)

thanks a lot -Sarah G. from period 4

John Wood

We have many different birds that visit the tundra during the year. There are Bald and Golden Eagles, ducks, the Tundra Swan, Jays, and smaller buntings. That is all I can think of for now, but I will see if I can come up with more. Thanks,

Great! Thanks a lot. Have you ever seen any species of albatrosses up in alaska, just resting there for a while, since they spend most of their lives flying over the water? Have you ever seen just a glimpse of one flying?Hope to hear from you soon!

I have not seen albatross in the north. I have seen many of them down in the southern ocean and in Antarctica. While we are sailing they fly around sometimes. They are large and very good at flying low over the swells in the ocean. I have been in some of their nesting areas and seen them close up. Remind me and I will share some photos with the class when I return. Thanks,
Mr. Wood
