I think I might know why Thing is called thing. They may have named him after the movie called The Thing. It was a famous science fiction thriller horror movie in the 1980's. I think you might have seen it, but if you haven't here is a summary of the movie. Summary: The thing was an alien that crashed in the Antarctic and was able to transform its self into different shapes, animals and took all the information the animal had. It tried to take over the world by transforming into a dog it killed and then the thing ran to a station in the Antarctic. One of the people took the thing into the dog shelter and when the human left the thing split and tried to consume the other dogs. The people there heard all the commotion and went to see what was going on. They tried to killed the thing and later pondering what it was. However, the thing was not killed, later one of them consumed their friends. When they noticed this the started to wonder who is the thing and who is not. later lots of backstabing and betrayal started to happen.
There is lots of suspense in this movie and I don't recommend showing this in your elective. This is why I think the dog thing is called thing because the thing transformed into one of the dogs.
