We loved reading your journal!

We have a few different thoughts about climate and weather:

Jorge thinks: climate is about the temperature, while weather is when it rains.

Alaina thinks: climate is not just in one place but all the surrounding areas and weather is telling you about a specific place.

We also have some ideas about the fly and the willow:

Emily, Alex, William and Thomas think: it is a symbiotic relationship because the fly is spreading around the seeds and pollinating the plant and in turn the plant gives it shelter or food.

Noah wants to know what the fly is doing!

Hope to hear back from you soon and stay warm!!

Sincerely, your pal, Michelle Brown, and our PolarClub students at O.Henry Middle School Austin, Texas!

Thanks for all of the great answers! You guys have been doing a lot of thinking together. On the climate/weather question I think you are all on the right track. Many factors affect the climate and the weather. The climate is really kind of the weather but over a longer period of time. I think of it this way. If I were going for the day to play in the park, I might look outside or in the newspaper to see what the weather will be for that day and I would dress the right way. But I was going some where on vacation, like Hawaii, I would think of what kind of climate is there so that I could plan on what clothes to take. It might rain one day and sunny or hot the next, but I know it will also be on the warmer side. Does that make sense? As for the fly and the willow, you guys are right on! It is a relationship called mutualism. Both organisms benefit from the relationship.
Good job!!! Keep up the good work.
