Dear Mr. Wood,

Hello! This is Emily Mannarelli from your 6th period class. First of all, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!!!!!! (I read one of your journal entries) Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that the Broadcom Masters program is coming up and that I'm going to register for it. :-D And that Monday and Tuesday is the Sate Fair. :-D Wish me luck!! :-] I promise to e-mail you as soon as we get home how the Fair went. I also have an answer to one of your questions, I think that the moose belongs to the Cervidae family. Is that right??

Your Student, Emily M.

P.S. I CAN'T WAIT TILL' YOU GET BACK!!!!!!!! In the meantime.....
HAVE FUN AND LEARN SOMETHING!!!

John Wood

I have been thinking about the state fair and was hoping you would let me know. Have a lot of fun there! I know you will do well. Good luck with the Broadcom Masters Program also. keep me posted!! You are right about the moose. I wish you could all be here to see the tundra and everything that goes on around the study site. It is so cool!!!Cheers,

Dear Mr. Wood,First of all, I'm glad your having so much fun. I was wondering when we will be able to Skype you for the first time. :-]
Today in Science we started the Section 3 Outline, and the Assessment is homework. I'm really enjoying this Chapter.
Mr. P. gave me some really good advice today about the science fair. He told me that out of all the judges, there's always
that one who looks so nice and really interested in what you have to say. "Look at that person. Try to make eye-contact
with the other judges too, but for the most part, it helps to just look at that one person you feel most comfortable talking too.
That's what I do when I audition for movies." Is what Mr. P. said. :-]
It helped me with my nervousness. I can't wait until June 4th when you are back at Talbert and we can tell each other
everything both of us have learned in the past several weeks! :-] Sorry this message is so long, but I just have one question for you :
Is there a specific number of dogs it usually takes to pull a dog sled?? If so, is there a specific reason it's that number??
I can't wait to see you again,
Emily M.

John Wood

Always good to hear from you. It sounds like you are pretty ready for the state fair. Sounds like good advise from Mr. P. We will Skype soon. Good question about the dogs. It really depends on the load and the distance and the conditions they have to deal with. For my usual sled there were six dogs. They were able to pull me and some gear easily for a long time.Cheers,

Dear Mr. Wood,Yesterday was the State Fair. The building and the view from the third story was incredible! I had a lot of fun! There were supposed to be six judges in our category, but only five showed up. Dr. Daniel E. something(i forget his last name) never showed up, but it said his name on the list of our category's judges.
The five that did show up, though were really nice and seemed like they were really interested in what I was saying. It was an awesome experience! But in the end,
all the stress and hard work didn't really pay off at the State Fair..... I wasn't even an honorable mention. :-] But I have really learned a lot for next year! And I can't wait for Broadcom Masters!!
See ya soon!!
Your Student,
Emily M.

John Wood

We are so proud of you!! Remember, it is not the destination, but the journey that is important. Not only what you have learned from all of this, but also what you have felt has changed you now, forever. You represented Orange County in a very honorable and unique way, your way! This is only the first few steps in your journey. Your hard work is paying off, even as you begin thinking about what you will do next, you see it as a different person with much more to share. The fair was not the destination. Being there was fantastic! There will be much more to come.Go have some ice cream and enjoy the ride!
