Greetings from Essex High School (and a special hello to Heidi). Some of the Earth Science classes are enjoying the journals, pictures and all the information you are posting about your research. I had a question about the stream velocity. What exactly do you do with those measurements? What information are you gaining with those measurements and how does that help you with your research? Thanks, Liz Harrington

Ms. Harrington and class!Heidi sends a huge "HELLO" your way!Great question about the measurements we collect at the streams and how it helps with our research. The DOM team collects physical data at each stream site to help determine the rate of flow. We use velocity, depth, and width measurements to help establish the rate of flow. Information on how slowly or quickly the stream is flowing into the larger bodies of water provides the DOM team with more information on the rate at which organic matter is getting flushed out of the stream system.Happy Holidays to all of you from Heidi and the DOM team!Keep Cool, Sarah
