Their are tons of different jobs on the team. Could you be a sampler like the DOM team and a cook or engineer or any other occupations?

There are countless different jobs available to those who want to work in Antarctica- as a scientist, directly as science support, or as someone who helps keep the science communities running smoothly. From electricians and plumbers to janitors and doctors, the range of skills and talents in Antarcticians is awesome. Many people have such a great desire to come down here that they actually go back to school or learn a new trade just to make themselves more employable. Think about what it takes to keep your community working- you need management, maintenance, food service, post office, transportation, construction, medical and fire services, cultural services, entertainment, and so on. Research stations in Antarctica provide all the same services. For people who are directly involved with a science expedition, their responsibilities are typically very focused and specific. Perhaps they are the chemist or the biologist of the team, or the principal investigator, or maybe their job is as support to the primary researchers. It is exciting to think that if you really, really want to work in Antarctica the possibility is there, just waiting for you!Keep cool, Sarah
