Hi Ms. Brosko's class!
Eli, we are pretty sure that the penguins are Chinstrap Penguins. We have all kinds of books for identifying the Antarctic life that we see and that is what we determined from those.
Catlin, none of our scientists on board are researching sea cucumbers, but we do know that they are used for food in Japan. They are quite gross looking though.
Manoa, we personally have not been off the boat, but we do plan on sending down an instrument called a Towcam that will take excellent pictures of the sea floor. I am very excited about seeing the photos.
Riley and Gabriel, we do not eat anything caught in the trawl, but those lobsters would be yummy with a little garlic butter! We actually have excellent cooks that create great meals. They cook 4 meals a day, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and midnight rations (snack- type food). The meals usually have a theme-- like asian, mexican, american, italian, and etc. Tonight we had an Italian theme with chicken marsala, cheese and spinach ravioli, salad, squash, spinach, and a soup.
They always offer many different choices and then they always have some excellent desserts!
Sam, we have not seen any other boats at sea. You have to remember that this central area of the Scotia Sea is rarely traveled and has only been researched a couple of other times.
Thanks for continuing to read the journals and look at the photos! Keepsending questions and comments!
Mrs. Brosko would love it out here!!
