Hello Katie, this is New Start Middle School in Flagstaff, Arizona.  We have a few questions as we start to get ready for the webinar.  Thanks....

1.  What are you trying to learn from studying the ocean floor between Chile and Antarctica?   Ricky

2.  What information are you trying to learn from the coral collections?   Raymond

3.  Can you please explain the meaning of a seamount?   Marisol

4.  What species of fish have you collected in your tows, and new species so far?   ivan

5.  Are some of the rocks you found volcanic, and how do rocks grow rings to show their age?  Annaly

6.  How long does it take for the styrofoam to shrink, is there a specific measurement?   Kris

 7.  How old do you think the fossilized coral is?   Justin

Hi New Start Middle School in Flagstaff, Arizona,Thanks so much for participating in the webinar, I thought it was a great success! I am sorry that I didn't have the time to respond to your questions before the event, but it might have been better because it gave you the opportunity to get the answers from the scientists-- very cool! Most of the questions were answered during the webinar, so I will answerthe others that were not.
Marisol, a seamount is basically a hill that is on the seafloor instead of being above sea level.
All the other geology questions were answered today either during my slide show or by the scientists during the question section.
