After you guys have been home for awhile, do you find yourself missing the trip as whole? My other question is: have any other trips like this one occurred? If so, what did they find upon conducting their own research?

Thanks so much, Abby Poelstra Lake City High School

Jamie Esler

Hi Abby,There are certainly parts of the trip that I already miss: fresh
glacial meltwater in my water bottle each morning, the absolute quiet of
the tundra while lying in my tent at night, and the fun times we had in
the cook tent on the rainy days to name a few. :)
Yes, other trips to Mulajokull have occurred by this team. The Nordic
researchers have been going to Mulajokull since 2009 to study the
drumlins and the active ice margin. They have recorded many interesting
observations about the entire system there: ice margin retreat,
stratigraphy logs of various till units in the forfield, and some really
neat erosional features in the drumlin field like "till tunnels"!
Looking forward to working with you in class this year,
Mr. Esler
