Dear Mr.Wood, 

Hi Mr.Wood! I have only two question today. If Mount Erebus can errupt plain crystals ,won't the crystals be very small? When the crystals form by themselves woudn't it cool faster then it was in the ball of molten material? I hope you can emamil me as soon as you finish reading these questions.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.  Good question!  The crystals actually may grow while they are in the lava lake.  They form as crystals and then get thrown out with other material in a bomb where they continue to grow, but separate form the rest of the material.
