Is it possible to extract heat from the volcano by drilling a well in the ground near it ,and pouring in water that will comeback as steam?

Hello,
Thanks for the question.  It is possible to use the heat from the volcano to produce steam.  In this case with Mt. Erebus, it would be difficult to build your sturcture close enough to the heat supply and not be in an area that is very steep or has a high degree of volcanic bombs falling.  So far the power needs on the mountain are easily met with solar panels and wind generators, which is easier and less dangerous than making steam!
