Dear Mr. Wood,

Hi!  It's been pretty fun, as usual, in science.  Ms. Waters is pretty nice, too.  We finally started on our chapter on volcanoes about a week ago and i have some questions for you:

What did you do on Thanksgiving?  If you had a special feast, what did you eat?  Will you be doing anything for Christmas?

How often do you see lava spat out of Erebus?  Do a lot of lava bombs shoot out of Erebus? Do the anorthoclase crystals grow in large deposits in certain places of Erebus, or all over?  Are there plenty of other volcanoes on Antarctica?  How many are active?  How soon will the seismometers be set up?  Have you seen any penguins?  What kind?

When will the flag design be put up and will it be put up with other flags, too?  What's Tommy T-Bird doing?

Hope to hear a reply soon from you!!!

Hello Michelle,Glad to hear that all is well on your end.  Things are good here.  Thank you for asking about my holidays.  Thanksgiving was nice in McMurdo and pretty normal.  I'm not sure what Christmas is going to be like.  It will be white!
I just made it to the top of Erebus a couple of days ago.  We had to carry equipment up for Dr. Clive.  I also carried your flag up with me, and I have pictures at the crater!!!  Looks good!  The volcano is smoking a lot these days, but not throwing out any material lately.  The crystals are EVERYWHERE!  It is amazing!  I am bringing back some samples.  There are lots of other volcanoes in the antarctic.  Most are not active.  Tommy is doing well.  He does get cold but i'm taking good care of him.
Cheers,
Mr. Wood
