Dear Mr.Wood,

Will you send pictures of the 5 caves to our class? Are caves the only place you can find crystals at? How do they form? What other activities will you be doing? Today it is pretty warm outside,58 degrees. I saw the lava lake pictures you took from Mt. Erebus. How do lava lakes form? Please answer all my questions. Have a Merry Christmas!!!!

Sincerely,

Jennifer,I will send pictures of the caves.  The crystals are not always in the caves, they are found in several spots on the mountain.  We are getting the last of the blasts done today, even though the weather has been less than good.  Yesterday the wind was as high as 50 mph with a windchill of -80 degrees C!  And this is summer!  How lava lakes form is something that we are trying to figure out.  I have some interesting data to share when I return.
 Enjoy your holidays,
Mr. Wood

Dear Mr.Wood,What spots are crystals found on either in or on the mountain? What has been the highest tempurature ever in Antarctica? Yahoo! Tomorrow is Christmas and I'm so excited! My grandpa, grandma, my 2 aunts, and my uncle are coming over. Wow that is very low for summer time! Lastly, have you catscaned the mountain? If you have, what kind of data have you found? I can't wait for your return. Have a merry Christmas!
Be happy,

Merry Christmas Jennifer,Sounds like you will have a nice Christmas.  The crystals are formed inside of the lake but then come out later and are thrown all over the place.  The cat scan is just about finished, but then we have to go out and pick up all of the seismometers and get them ready to come back to the states.  Lots to do still!
Cheers,
Mr. Wood
