Hello Mr. Wood. I enjoyed that presentation you gave us fifth graders at Plavan. I have a few questions. 1. How exactly is the feldspar made? 2. Can you remind me when your next expedition will be? 3. Why and where do the Adelie Penguins migrate to?

Hello VivianeThank you very much for the questions and the comments.  I'm really glad that you enjoyed the assembly!  I don't have real dates for the Alaska expedition yet, but we will leave sometime around the middle of April and return towards the end of May.
Did you get an Erebus Crystal?  We think that they grow like that while they are in the lava lake and tube of the volcano.  As the lava move up and down the tube, as you saw in the short film, the crystals add material and grow larger until they are thrown out by gas eruptions.
As for the penguins, most penguins spend a lot of their time in the oceans feeding, so they travel some good distances.  The Adelie Penguins have been tracked swimming along the Antarctic coast and in the Southern Ocean sometimes 3000 miles from their nesting areas.  But they always return to their homes whenever they can.
