Dear John,

Hi my name is Rosaleo John and I’m a student at Newstart Middle School here in Flagstaff Arizona. My hobbies are drawing, playing basketball, Bmx riding, an just hanging out with friends. I understandThat you are going to be going to the Erebus Volcano in Antarctica. So what are some of the things that you will be doing while you’re out there? Are you going to be doing some seismic experiments? Is it also Fun thing to do? Also in our science class were studying some water sediments that we got from a pond near the school. We will be conducting some experiments with the sediments that we collected from the pond. We built a contraption to trap the sediments, to build the contraption we used 3 tubes which we drilled 2 holes in each side of the tubes then we connected it to a 4 pound weight. Then we put it into the pond and we waited till 24 hours till we had to take it out of the pond. Well that’s what we are doing in our science class. I hope I hear from you soon an thank you for your time.Thank You,Rosaleo John

Mr. Wood

Hello Rosaleo,
Thank you for the questions.  It sounds like you are all pretty busy at Newstart M.S..  Yes, we will be conduction seismic experiments, as well as taking samples of the gas from the volcano.  We will be attempting to map the inside of Mt. Erebus to see what it looks like.  We will be installing 100 seismic stations to collect data.  We are hoping for good weather this season in Antarctica so that we have time to do all the things we want.  Your experiments sound like fun.  I hope that you are enjoying them.  Let me know if you have any more questions.
Cheers,
Mr. Wood
