how cold can antartica get and how warm it can get

Anonymous

One of the coldest places in Antarctica is the South Pole. The Pole is at a physical elevation of around 9,300 ft, but a physiological elevation of near 11,000 feet. It feels much higher to people because the atmosphere is much thinner at the Pole so there is less oxygen to breathe. Currently, the austral summer temperatures have been around -45F while on the coast, McMurdo Station has been in the high teens to low twenties Farenheit. To be able to see current weather conditions and temperatures, you can go the the United States Antarctic Program station webcams at http://www.usap.gov/videoclipsandmaps/mcmwebcam.cfm for McMurdo, http://www.usap.gov/videoclipsandmaps/spWebCam.cfm for the South Pole Station, and http://www.usap.gov/videoclipsandmaps/palWebCam.cfm for Palmer Station out on the Antarctic Penninsula.
