Did the large scale earth quake that happened off the coast of japan effect the glacier?

You know that is a cool question... I need to ask someone and get back to you... I imagine there are glaciers that cover fault lines and do crack during an earthquake, I know that in New Zealand during the big quake there a large chunk of ice fell into the ocean. If there were a crack on the surface it might look like a normal crevace... and it might fill in rather quickly.... I need to learn more.

We know that as glaciers melt and get smaller they begin to roll uncontrolably, if you were to put a massive amount of weight on one side of a really large glacier could you send it into the same spining effect? or would it just roll over once?

How big an effect do geothermal vents play towards glacial melt?

Michael Lampert

not sure how they roll... that sounds more like a snowball than a glacier...

fortunately there are no geothermal vents here, and I do not know the answer to this question, maybe someone can tell me if there is a geothermal vent in a glacier...
