Are there any trace amounts of chemicals from the atmosphere trapped in the glacier? If there are any, What chemicals are they?

yep, there are, it is just the same air you breathe, but what they look for is the ratio of certain isotopes existing in the air back then and now. this is mostly done in the deep ice of Greenland and Antarctica.
