wow, the best questions come from you guys!Eric, the pressure under the glacier is very similar to what you would have if someone stood on you with high heels. It is measured in a unit of Pascals. There are about one million pascals of pressure beneath the ice.
Olivia, when you touch the glacier it is just like touching smooth ice from a drink at school. except this ice is a thousand years old.
Caleb, great question, we just found some garnet... there is a lot of mica mixed in.. I will ask the geologist here to set out a bunch of rocks for you so you can see what is what.
Sydney, there are about ten scientists here this year, some are students, some are professors, they all are interested in different kinds of science at the glacier.
Scottie, I sleep on a bunkbed sharing space with other scientists in the living quarters. we were going to sleep outside but the fire marshal said it was ok for us to sleep inside the tunnel.
Diego, great question.. i wish I could see it! the sun goes low at about midnight for three hours now, it is not much time, it makes you stay awake more. a little bit more north and it would not set at all. We are almost right on the arctic circle.
Emma, the lab has about 5 rooms, there is a lunch room, a lab space, a tool room, a wet room for experiments and small closet like rooms. It is about as big as two mobile homes.
we will melt the glacier with lots and lots of hot water. thanks for your questions.
