When was McMurdo station founded? Was it founded by an Irish person? Why is it called McMurdo? Thanks for the help! -Jorge

Hello Jorge!McMurdo Station was founded in 1902. It was founded by British explorer
Robert Falcon Scott, who build Discovery Hut. The hut is still standing
here at McMurdo and I hope to visit it soon.
McMurdo Station is named after the nearby McMurdo sound, which is named
after Archiald McMurdo. He was a lieutenant of the HMS Terror, which
charted the area in 1841 with British explorer James Clark Ross.
