Dear Mr. Abbasi,
My research team was conducting an environmental impact study of the human presence in the region of McMurdo sound and the station area of McMurdo.  Although there are glaciers very near to McMurdo, we were not testing the glacial ice specifically.  We were collecting terrestrial and marine sediments to test for toxicity levels, heavy metals, PCBs, and hydrocarbons.  The samples were collected and will be shipped back to Texas A&M University, arriving in April and will be analyzed in the environmental lab at that time.  The previous data analysis does show relatively low levels of some of the heavy metals and higher levels of PCBs and PCHs.  However, all of these levels are below US EPA acceptable standards.   The data results for this year will be available early next fall.

Thank you for your question!
