Hi, Ann,

Greetings from Bellaire, where the weather is a balmy 78°.  Wishing you and your team a glorious Thanksgiving!

About those hedgerows in New Zealand... I keep hoping one of your students will explain its use, but since I haven't seen an explanation yet, I'll take a guess.  It appears that they're used as fences, maybe as windbreaks or to keep animals in or out of the fields.  Am I even close?

I'm enjoying vicariously tagging along on your adventure.  Take care!

Hi Debra,
Happy Thanksgiving to you too! I hope all went well given the circumstances of the last couple of months.    Hedgerows are designed to reduce the damage caused by wind when it blows across a plain.  In many cases it is also used to set off property boundaries as well.  I dont think I am going to see anything close to 78F until I get back to the North Island in NZ.  We are in the 20'sF for the most part here at McMurdo.

Take care and send more questions!
Ann
