How can the penguins survive without being on ice ? how many penguins where there? Is the weather there cold since the penguins are there?

Great question. These penguins are adapted to live in warmer climates. There's actually quite a few penguins that live on South America and
they don't have all the adaptations that true Antarctic penguins have.
Magellanic penguins spend their whole lives near South America. There's
are other species that spend their whole lives near the bottom of
Africa. Hopefully, I'll get to see more penguins that are adapted to
the cold weather of Antarctica soon and there will probably be snow in
those pictures. There's probably a 50-100 penguins at that site at any
one time. It just depends on the year. It's just a little bit colder
than San Francisco actually, about 40 F.
