When you and your group were doing some field archeology on Onekotan Island, I was wondering if you identified the reason for extinction and/or evacuation of this island?

Ah, if only we knew! That is, in essence, the heart of the problem we are trying to solve with this whole project! There are, of course, lots of "candidate" answers: a change in the food or water supply; got wiped out by a tsunami; got wiped out by a volcanic eruption; or, maybe they just got fed up with having to deal with all of that and headed to someplace like central Nevada where they didn't have to worry about it? (joke)
