Dear Dr. Etnier and KBP team,

in the second entry to the online journal, you said that you will not have time to sight see in Seoul. But you also said that you have a 12-24 hour layover in Seoul. is that not enough time to see this vast marketplace you talked about? also is the layover 12 or 24 hours? I wasn't quite sure from your message.Frown

Ahhh, good to know that I've got someone checking up on the accuracy of my statements!
There are actually a few reasons why it is difficult to sightsee on our outbound leg of the journey. We arrive in Seoul at 5 pm local time and our next flight is the following morning at 10 am. With check-in times for the airport and check-out times for the hotel, that only gives us about 12 hours. Add to that the fact that we will have just completed a VERY long flight (11.5 hours) from Seattle and the fact that most of the market (though certainly not ALL of it) shuts down for the night, it wouldn't really be a very enjoyable sightseeing trip.
On our homeward journey, though, we are scheduled to arrive in Seoul at 6 pm after the relatively short flight from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (just over 3 hours). So there is still the issue of the market, etc., being closed for the night. However, our final flight doesn't leave until 5:30 pm the following day, so it's a lot more feasible to get to downtown (1 hour bus ride from the airport) and have a relaxing time seeing the sights!
