Kuril Islands Biocomplexity

Hi Ms. Nikula, I am excited that you are going to have fun on the trip to Kuril Islands, I am excited to hear from you every week. I have a question that I would wish to ask you:

-Is Beth going to be going onto the trip to the kuril Islands? I ask because you didn't metion her in the summary!

AlyssaI am glad to hear that you are looking forward to my trip - I look forward to hearing from you!
Beth is not mentioned in the summary because she is NOT coming to the Kurils this summer. Her graduate work is dependent upon her collecting data in other areas and if she comes to Russia each summer, she won't be able to do the work that she needs to do to get her PhD. We will miss her though! She was a great hole digger and a lot of fun!

Beth COULD go and still get her PhD, but if she did, then it would take her longer to do so, because she would be spending this whole summer with us, instead of working on the things that she needs to do for her work.  The research that she is doing isn't about the Biocomplexity Project research, but in some other area of the world (that I don't know off the top of my head, but when I see Bre or Jody in a few weeks, I will ask them and let you know).

Oh I see! Well that is to bad that she cannot make it. That is good that she will be able to get her PhD sooner though, and that is a smart chose!
