Hi Misty!

Wow, that is very interesting about the tsunamis. I was wondering if the researchers share this information with other organizations or institutions that track and study tsunamis and earthquakes? For instance, last winter the Alaska Earthquake Information Center sent out a warning for the Kuril tsunami. This warning was for most of the coastal communities from the Aleutians to California. In the end, the tsunami turned into a small wave that didn't impact any of the communities...but obviously, it was more evident in the Kurils. Anyway, I’m sure these types of organizations are interested in knowing where the tsunami actually hit as well as the impacts and I was just wondering how researchers share this type information with one another.

Thanks!

Janet YES! Much of this information is "avidly" anticipated by other researchers, both in the US and in Russia (and elsewhere I suppose). Tsunami modelers at the UW are awaiting Jody and Bre's return so that they can update their ability to predict tsunamis - which is how much of the warnings are determined, from models. Also, Jody is working with her Russian colleagues to possibly have a special session on the tsunami at the AGU conference in December. There are also several journal articles that I heard being discussed - both to be published in the US and in Russia. So the word will be getting out soon!
