Hi Ms. N,

It's great that the trip has gone so well so far, and that your journal entries are their usual outstanding quality.

I was wondering why they had you arrive in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk so early (just to wait 3 days) before going south maybe 30 miles and, I assume, hopping on the ship. Just to give everyone a chance to acclimate and do last minute shopping and prep, or is there something else you're expected to accomplish while there?

 Thanks,

Chuck B.

Thanks for reading the journals! We got here early for two main reasons - to do our passport/visa registration which takes at least 24 hours in Russia and to to be sure that we got here in time to do any of the errands that we needed to do before we head out. We still have quite a laundry list of things and since we are not able to get ourselves around town easily for the large items - like picking up a generator, buying hip waders, etc - or we need Russian translators to assist us - like putting minutes onto the satellite phone and getting the modem software installed - it always takes longer than anticipated.....
Hope to hear from you again soon!
