Hello Frankie,
First, let me shout out a great big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you! I hope you had a wonderful day!
It is a LONG journey to get to Antarctica. People travel there either by boat or by plane - there are no roads, bridges, or tunnels connecting Antarctica to any other place. It's pretty far away!
I will be getting there by plane. First I will fly on a commercial ailine over to California. Then another plane to New Zealand. Then, we take a miliatary plane from New Zealnand to Antarctica. From NH - LA is about 6-10 hours (6 if your plane doesn't stop anywhere along the way....mine is stopping, so it will take longer!) From LA - NZ is about 12.5 hours - that's to Aukland. Then we get on another plane from Aukland to Christchurch, NZ which is about 1.5 hours. From NZ to Antarctica.... it depends on which type of military plane we go on. If we go on a C-17, it taks about 5.5 hours.
So, if you add up all the "flying" times, it takes about 25.5 hours (that doesn't include airport layovers!): that's a LONG TIME!!
You can also check out Jeff Peneston's journal. He will be going to Antarctica by boat! He can tell you about how long that will take! It will be an amazing journey - I can't wait to hear all about his trip!
Cheers,
RobinĀ
